Mixed media weaving with a decorative ladder as the loom would be a great, handmade piece of art for any home. The piece has lots of texture and incorporates a few vintage items. Vintage lace, an old railroad nail and old keys are some of the items that add an extra layer of texture to the eye. A vareity of yarns and wool roving are just the right touch to add a little bulk to the wall hanging. To finish the piece off, a cyanotype image on wood was added for an extra layer. The cyanotype image is of an African-American child in Harlem, NY taken in 2019.
The picture of the child with a policeman walking behind him and the sad look in his eyes. This look, to me, symbolizes the innocence of our youth and the protection they need from the systematic inequalities and stereotypes that will plague them at one time or another. The piece is ready to hang.
